A postal worker from Armadale is set to face court after allegedly removing and tampering with mail parcels while working at Perth Airport.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) allege the employee interfered with multiple packages being processed through the airport’s mail handling facility, prompting an investigation into the suspected theft and tampering of postal items.

Authorities claim the worker removed parcels from the mail stream and unlawfully accessed their contents before returning or otherwise interfering with the packages.

Investigation Launched After Reports of Missing Mail

The investigation began after Australia Post reported concerns about missing and tampered-with parcels moving through the Perth Airport mail processing centre.

Police allege investigators reviewed CCTV footage and gathered evidence linking the accused to the incidents before executing enforcement action.

The accused, an Armadale resident, has since been charged with offences relating to the alleged removal and interference with postal articles.

Court Appearance

The postal worker is expected to appear before court at a later date to face the charges.

Authorities have not disclosed how many parcels were allegedly affected, the value of the items involved, or whether any of the stolen property has been recovered.

AFP Warning

The AFP said allegations involving the theft or tampering of mail are treated seriously because they undermine public confidence in Australia’s postal system and can have significant financial and personal impacts on victims.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information relevant to the matter is urged to contact the Australian Federal Police.

As with all criminal proceedings, the charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
