A 77-year-old Rochester man has been found dead inside his apartment, with the Rochester Police Department launching a homicide investigation into the suspicious death.

Police were called to an apartment building at 149 N. Union Street shortly before 11:50 a.m. on Friday, July 3, after receiving a report of a possible deceased person inside Apartment 1.

Officers discovered Marc Stekloff, the apartment’s sole resident, dead inside the home. While authorities have not released the exact cause of death, investigators confirmed the case is being treated as a Rochester homicide.

According to police, Stekloff was discovered by a concerned friend who went to check on him after he stopped answering phone calls. The friend alerted emergency services after finding him unresponsive.

The Rochester Police Major Crimes Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and is working to determine how the killing occurred and what may have motivated it.

No arrests have been made, and investigators have not identified any suspects. Detectives are examining forensic evidence, interviewing potential witnesses, and reviewing any available surveillance footage from the area.

Police have asked anyone with information about the North Union Street homicide, suspicious activity in the neighbourhood, or details that could assist the investigation to contact the Rochester Police Department.

The Rochester murder investigation remains active, and authorities say further information will be released as detectives continue their inquiries.
