Two men are in police custody after allegedly pointing an imitation firearm at a synagogue in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, prompting a swift police response and an investigation into the incident.
The alleged incident occurred outside the synagogue, where police claim an imitation pistol was pointed toward the place of worship. Officers were called following reports of the suspicious behaviour and quickly launched an investigation.
Police later located and arrested two men in connection with the incident. Authorities have confirmed the weapon involved was allegedly an imitation firearm.
No injuries were reported, and there was no immediate threat to members of the synagogue. However, the incident has caused concern within the local community as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged act.
The two men remain in custody while detectives continue their inquiries. Police are expected to examine CCTV footage, speak with witnesses, and establish the motive behind the alleged incident.
Authorities have not indicated whether the matter is being investigated as a hate-related offence, with inquiries continuing.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward as the investigation progresses. Further information is expected to be released as the inquiry continues.
