A 47-year-old Florida man has been arrested months after investigators linked him to the sexual assault and killing of a woman in Jacksonville earlier this year.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) announced that Raymond Jackson Jr. was identified as the suspect following a lengthy homicide investigation into the death of a woman found inside an apartment on Sunbeam Road on Jan. 23, 2026. Investigators said officers had responded to a welfare check and discovered the victim dead at the scene.
According to JSO, detectives used evidence collected throughout the investigation to identify Jackson as the suspect. He was later taken into custody by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office after a pursuit involving law enforcement agencies.
Authorities said Jackson was indicted on May 21 on charges of murder, sexual battery, and burglary with assault or battery. After being transferred from the Florida Department of Corrections to the Duval County Jail on June 29, he was formally arrested on the charges the following day.
Court records show Jackson is scheduled to be arraigned on July 13, 2026, at the Duval County Courthouse. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about the victim.
