Australians planning a trip to Bali are being urged to stay alert after an Australian travel influencer warned of an apparent increase in phone snatching and jewellery theft across some of the island’s busiest tourist destinations.

Samantha, an Australian travel guide who regularly shares Bali travel tips on social media, posted a video that has attracted more than 250,000 views, warning visitors about a recent rise in street thefts.

According to Samantha, locals have reported an increase in incidents where thieves riding mopeds allegedly snatch mobile phones and jewellery from unsuspecting tourists.

She said the reported thefts have been occurring in popular tourist hotspots, including Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta and Uluwatu, making it a growing concern for holidaymakers.

“I know two people personally who have had their necklaces pulled off in Canggu,” Samantha said, urging travellers to take extra precautions.

The travel influencer advised visitors to keep expensive jewellery out of sight, avoid using mobile phones while walking near roads, and securely store valuables when exploring the island.

While Bali remains one of the most popular overseas destinations for Australian travellers, tourists are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow local safety advice to reduce the risk of becoming victims of opportunistic theft.
