Sydney: A young man has died after falling from a building in the heart of Sydney’s Central Business District, prompting an emergency response that briefly brought parts of the busy commercial precinct to a standstill.
According to police, emergency services rushed to the corner of Kent Street and Market Street at around 2.20 pm on Tuesday after reports that a person had fallen from a building in the area.
Police officers, NSW Ambulance paramedics and other first responders reached the spot within minutes and immediately began attempts to save the man, including performing CPR. Despite their efforts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident triggered a large-scale emergency response, with multiple police vehicles and ambulances converging on the busy intersection during peak office hours. Officers cordoned off the area, setting up a security perimeter to allow paramedics and investigators to carry out their work, which led to temporary disruptions for pedestrians, motorists and commuters in the vicinity.
An office worker who witnessed the aftermath said several onlookers were left in tears following the tragedy, describing a distressing scene as people who had gathered nearby struggled to process what had happened. Some bystanders were seen comforting one another as emergency crews worked at the site.
Police have so far not released the identity of the deceased, with formal identification and notification of next of kin required before further details can be made public. Early indications suggest the death is not being treated as suspicious, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
As is standard procedure in cases of sudden and unexpected death, a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Normal activity in the area is expected to resume once police have completed their on-site investigation.
