A 36-year-old man has died after losing consciousness while being restrained inside a bottle shop in Brisbane’s northern suburb of Bracken Ridge, prompting an ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Emergency services were called to a bottle shop on Barrett Street shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday following reports of a disturbance involving a man who had allegedly entered the premises carrying a screwdriver.
According to initial police information, staff members and members of the public intervened to restrain the man after the disturbance began. During the restraint, the man reportedly became unconscious.

Police officers arriving at the scene found bystanders performing CPR. Despite emergency resuscitation efforts, the 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Early investigations indicate that the man lost consciousness while being restrained. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death, which will be determined through the ongoing investigation, including a post-mortem examination.
Queensland Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident at this stage.
Investigators are continuing to examine the events leading up to the man’s death and are expected to review witness statements and any available CCTV footage from the bottle shop.
