Melbourne, Australia: A 15-year-old boy has died after being found with suspected stab wounds outside Craigieburn Community Hospital in Melbourne’s north, prompting a homicide investigation and the arrest of two suspects.
Emergency services were called to the hospital on Lygon Drive in Craigieburn at around 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday after the critically injured teenager was discovered outside the medical centre.
A hospital staff member immediately began CPR and provided emergency assistance until paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, the boy died at the scene.
Victoria Police said the teenager, who was from Mickleham, had not been formally identified at the time the initial statement was released. A crime scene was established as homicide detectives launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, police arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man in the nearby suburb of Pascoe Vale. Detectives from the Homicide Squad are expected to interview both individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
Northern Health, which operates Craigieburn Community Hospital, said hospital staff had no prior knowledge of the events that led to the teenager being found in the hospital car park.
“A staff member discovered a young man in the hospital car park with serious injuries,” a Northern Health spokesperson said.
“Despite the immediate efforts of hospital staff and emergency responders to provide assistance, the young man sadly died from his injuries. Our thoughts are with the young man’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Police have not yet released details about the circumstances of the alleged stabbing, including where the incident occurred or whether the victim and those arrested were known to one another.
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Victoria Police or Crime Stoppers.
As the matter is before investigators, the allegations have not been tested in court. Police have not yet announced any charges against the two individuals arrested.
