Police are appealing for witnesses and cellphone footage after a young man was seriously injured in a stabbing at a large gathering in Whangārei on Friday night.
Emergency services were called to a property on Forest View Road in the Te Kamo suburb at around 11:50 p.m. following reports of a fight involving two people.
When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from severe stab wounds and immediately provided first aid before paramedics transported him to hospital.
Police said the young man underwent surgery and remains in serious but stable condition.
Investigators believe the stabbing occurred after a fight between two people at a party attended by more than 200 people. Authorities are now working to identify those involved and determine the circumstances that led to the violence.
Detectives are urging anyone who attended the gathering or captured photos or cellphone video of the incident to come forward, saying the footage could play a crucial role in the investigation.
No arrests have been announced, and police continue to investigate the stabbing.
